"GRADATION ON ENGLISH WRITING SKILL IN CLASS-7 TEXTBOOK OF KARNATAKA STATE"
PORTION TAKEN FOR GRADATION:
In this text I have taken first five units for the gradation till page no.105.
GRADATION:
Gradation is a sequence of gradual and systematic progression of successive stage.
By doing gradation we can improve the quality and we can fulfill the required skills of the students. It helps us to improve the standard of education by grading it. By gradation we can get the ideas and views to improve the standard of the textbook. Gradation is a successive scale for the improvement.
The person who does the gradation also can learn new ideas and methods which are already utilised by others. So it helps in both the ways.
I chose this text for the gradation to learn how the other state textbook methods and how the skills are being utilised and also to know new activities and methods which I can utilize in my teaching.
This is a common daily activity and already they have knowledge in it, so the teachers guidance to creative writing with the discussion is good. So the late bloomers can also try to write by discussing with others.
By doing this speaking skill he can improve his spoken knowledge and also by asking questions we can find the understanding of the students. By asking the question why do you think it is correct? It brings the confidence in his thought and he tries to prove his feelings. By that the students get confidence in speaking and also by writing. By writing the answers they can recall and find the answer for the questions as from the lesson.
The previous exercise of writing skill in page number 22. It looks same as in page 33. They added listening skill to that but more or less both activities look same. I feel that here the activity can be given in a different way.
It is good thought to explain about the extrovert and introvert. But it deals with psychological feeling of an individual, so I feel that only if the student have an experience in his hostel life can answer well. I think that an easy topic other than this can be given to make the writing effective.
*The activity which given here is a very effective one. But I think only by the discussion with their partners they can get many ideas. But why they are asking the same question repeated "Explain why you think your answer is correct?".
*Next with the writing skill the two paragraphs are given and the students are as to fill with the appropriate words. It is an easy task for the students to fill in the blanks with eager in writing.
From the above given speaking and writing activity, I felt that same activity being repeated again why not a new activity can be given.
From the above given speaking and writing activity we find the same activity is being repeated. Actually it is a good activity but by repeating it makes the student feel monotonous and not interest in doing the activity because of the same repetition. Only by giving new activities the students will be eager and interest to participate in the activities. So some new activities can be given instead of this activity.
This reading and writing activity is a good activity but also here once again it is being repeated like the same in page number 42. There it was given as writing skill but it is given for reading and writing here in page number 58. Filling, task given and instruction given are not apt to the particular skill.
The activity which they given above they are repeating the same activity many times but they differentiate only by adding some skills altogether. So I feel there can be taken much care of choosing activities related with the appropriate skill and also new activities can be introduced to improve the skill based knowledge of the students.
The above given activity we can find obviously why repeating same but by giving different skills as the topic. In page number 61 the same activity was given and the skills were listening, speaking and writing. But in page number 68 the skill is reading, speaking and writing. Show it clearly shows the defect in informing the appropriate skill for the particular activity and also for the particular lesson.
The above given activity it very clearly shows as said early, the same activity is being given and they extend the skill altogether of LSRW.
The above given activity it also the same activity which they have given already but they have taken away the listening skill alone.
The above given writing skill activity is a good activity but the dialogue which given here will not be apt for the class 7 students. Because the conversation is between two students of higher secondary, they speak about choosing the group. So how a 7th standard student know about the choosing of group and explaining it. The answer of the fill ups can be easy. But to respond the question the student may find it difficult.
The above given writing skill activity is an impressive and creative thinking activity. The students find very eager to write and they feel very excited to express their feelings of writing. It creates more interest of defining the person and it receives the success in writing skill.
The above given activity it also the same activity which I have mentioned earlier but we can find the listening skill missing.
The above given writing skill activity which makes the understanding of the student strong. It also make the student to recall of his understanding. Explaining it by writing the creative and imaginative skill is being developed by the student.The above given activity has given for reading, speaking and writing. But in this activity the listening skill is also being used by the students. Because if the answer is not true the student substantiate with his true answer. But more or less this activity also looks as the same activity which I said earlier.
The above given writing activity is a good activity which makes the student to think creatively and also critically. It creates the imagination and creativity in forming a situation which is totally different from which they have learnt.
The above given writing skill activity is a good activity but it is also so being repeated again. So some of the students may not get interested or to participate in this activity.
CONCLUSION:Thus I conclude my gradation of this class 7 textbook of Karnataka state. In this gradation I have given my own thought and feeling about the skills utilised in this textbook. I don't have any intention of finding fault. But I have done it for the betterment in publishing new textbook. I also learnt many new activities and techniques to improve the skill based knowledge of the students.
